Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, known by her initials as AOC is rising new heights of popularity every single day with her quotes ruling the hearts of feminists. She created history by becoming the youngest woman to serve in the United States Congress at the age of 29.

Born in 1989, she is known for her fierce personality and bold speeches.

Recently the incident came in light where Ted Yoho had reportedly called her “disgusting” and told her, “You are out of your freaking mind” for suggesting that poverty and unemployment were driving a spike in crime in New York City during the coronavirus pandemic. To this, AOC was quoted as saying:

Having a daughter does not make a man decent. Having a wife does not make a decent man. Treating people with dignity and respect makes a decent man…I am someone’s daughter, too. My father, thankfully, is not alive to see how Mr. Yoho treated his daughter. My mother got to see Mr. Yoho’s disrespect on the floor of this House towards me on television. And I am here because I have to show my parents that I am their daughter and that they did not raise me to accept abuse from men’

Here are some quotes that you should not miss from this ‘beauty with brain’:

  1. “They will tell you that you are too loud, that you need to wait your turn. And ask the right people for permission. Do it anyways”

Doesn’t above sound so relatable? Numerous times women are made to feel that being loud isn’t suitable for them. In the name of ‘ideal women’ they make us do things based on what they decide for us, what they find suitable for us, what doesn’t scare them off.

Women in power have always been seen as a threat to patriarchy and it is so amazing to see this beautiful, young woman rising to power at her own terms.

2. “The idea that a woman can be as powerful as a man is something that our society can’t deal with. But I’m as powerful as a man and it drives them crazy”

She knows the kind of world she lives in. She also knows how to deal with it.

AOC is known to support equal rights for women, immigrants and LGBTQ community. She has always been open about her views and isn’t afraid to speak her mind even if it is the ‘President’ of America attacking her in a twitter war asking her and her squad to “go back to countries where they came from”.

She aptly replied to this bully by saying – “We don’t leave the things that we love, and when we love this country, what that means is that we propose the solutions to fix it”.

3. “I was born in a place where your zip code determines your destiny”

She did not come from a powerful or wealthy family. Her mother is from Puerto Rico and father was from South Bronx. Her mother cleaned homes and AOC herself did bartending and waitressing before becoming the big name in the US politics that she is today.

She recalls starting her campaign out of a Trader Joe’s bag and a bunch of printed palm cards and an idea. She is a living proof that a woman with a clarity of goal and strength to pursue them is unstoppable.

4. “I am not going to compromise who I am”

A person’s real strength lies in accepting who he or she is and not running away from their identity whether is race, gender or beliefs. AOC is known to stand for herself and for others whom she believes in. She is a popular name among feminists for she has never shied away from sharing her views even if they smelled controversy.

The full quote to above is – “Mentors of mine were under a big pressure to reduce their femininity to make it. I am not going to do that. That takes away my power. I am not going to compromise who I am”.

She leaves no doubt about being a proud feminist and foremost a proud woman. The way she has stood tall despite constant attacks from critics from time to time is commendable and noteworthy. You go girl.
